Got My Eye On You....

I have to say I've forgotten alot about owning a dog. How they are always so glad to see you even if you just left the room for a minute. The unconditional loyalty and love, the sweetness of a good bellyrub, and a whole lot of other stuff I'm sure. One of the things I love about Molly the most is her soft eyes. She just exudes gentleness out of them. You can tell she's happy to have found a home with people who treat her good and take care of her needs, simple as they are. Cesar Millan says you don't get the dog you want, you get the dog you need. I agree. And maybe she got the family she needed.
Here's lookin' at ya
I often wonder what she thinks of me
when she looks so intently at me
Ewwwww dog kisses!
Of course W thought it was great. The sweet touch of a little boy....
Oh wait....
apparently you can pick your friends,
and your nose,
or your dogs nose
if that's what you want...
I believe she was booger free.

I Have Been To The Boonies....

Living in a small town like I do, I always considered it the "boonies", or so I thought until yesterday when DH and I actually did go there. I bought some furniture from a friend who lives in a town about 2 hours, or so, from my house. And let me tell you....there wasn't a whole lot to be seen after we turned onto a small two lane road. For about and hour and a half all we saw were curves in the road ,as we traveled up and over several mountains, lots and lots of cows, horses, one herd of deer and a lone llama. It was a beautiful drive through Pisgah National Forest, but all I kept thinking was "What do these people do for a living? And where do they go to do it?" There was nothing, no stores, grocery or otherwise, no gas stations, there had to be a school because I kept seeing bus turn around signs, I never did see it, but that was it. When we finally did reach our destination it was a tiny town. I swear you blink and you are thorough it to the other side. The only place to shop was a Dollar General. You have to travel 20 minutes over the border into Tennessee to get groceries. It makes where I look like a metropolis. I like my small town living, but that was just a little too small for me. You have to admire those that choose to live there. Here is the definition for "boonies" a short form for Boondocks. 1.an uninhabited area with thick natural vegetation, as a backwoods or marsh (usually prec. by the). 2.a remote rural area (usually prec. by the): The company moved to a small town out in the boondocks.
Here is a view from the truck as we start our journey.
It was overcast most of the day.
small valley we went through.
I love the barns...we saw a whole bunch, but
I only managed to get pics of a few.
I was a busy, back breaking day, having to take the furniture out of one place, try to fit it in the trailer, moving it several times in the process, and then figuring out how to fit in the storage area we are using. DH earned lots of good hubby points for the day. We spent the whole day together just the two of us, Thank You Connie for watching the kids, and it was wonderful and a sort of anniversary for us. Thirteen years ago yesterday we met, on a blind date for coffee. Who would of thought that one date would have turned out so well.

Vet visit, Felting, and Award

I'm off to take Simi to the vet for her spaying...she's a little put out this morning as she isn't being fed, but she's sure to be really pissed in a couple hours. Oh well, must do the responsible owner thing. Afterwards W and I will stop by the laundry and felt the bag I just finished. I hope it comes out well, and I will post pics later.

I was lucky enough to receive an award from Desert Hen. You don't know how much it means to me that I have friends out there in blogger land. Friends around my neck of the woods are really few, nonexistent I would say. It makes my day to come to my blog and see the post from you all who might find it interesting the stuff I say. Know that you are apprecitated very much. I have to pass this along to eight people, and ask them to pass it along to eight with this .."Here's the cleverly written text of the award: "These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award." I don't have eight but here are the ones I choose to send it along to: Laughing Orca Ranch The 7 MSN Kristen A Nut In A Nutshell By The Hair Of My Chinny Chin Chin Stop by and visit these ladies, as they are some of the best out there. I love stopping by and visiting with them everyday, seeing what's happening in their lives. Pass on the friendship....

Interview With....

Me!!! Lisa over at Laughing Orca Ranch was interviewed by a friend of hers and asked if any of us blogger buddies were brave enough to take on the challenge...I stepped out of my box and said yes! Here are her questions and my completely honest answers.....
  1. Talk about my proudest moment: I would have to say that was when my kids were born I finally felt that I did something right.
  2. Talk about my most embarrassing moment: That's a toss up. Growing up in South Fl. we would spend alot of time in our pool. One day I had to use the bathroom, badly, you know those times when you think someone is trying to rip out your intestines and it just seems like it's never gonna stop, I know TMI, but you did ask....anyway after what felt like forever I finally made it back to the pool, with a toilet seat ring impression on my backside, that everyone could see....the other involved trying to get a tan and some Crisco, but that's another story.
  3. If you could travel anywhere, where would it be: I would love to visit Ireland but don't really want to fly over the ocean to do it. Also Maine in the fall, and most definitely Alaska.
  4. Have you ever swam naked? Where?: Yes I have and I recommend it to anyone who wants to feel completely free..In my pool.
  5. How many pairs of shoes do you own?: I never counted, as I'm not much of a shoe person, I would have to say less than 10.
  6. What is the most daring thing you've ever done?: Moving to NC to pursue a relationship with my husband when we had only seen each other twice.
  7. What is the funnies thing I've ever seen?: I would say Jeff Dunham comedy show, and someone walking down the street tripping and falling down..she didn't get hurt, but I got a giggle.

Those are my answers. I hope you enjoyed getting to know me, and hold nothing against me. I've learned not to sit on the pot and then go out to the pool, Crisco is only good for cooking, and it's still funny when someone falls down.

Christms Dinner With The Girls

We decided this year to go out to dinner for our Christmas Party. A good time was had by all. Of course if you get a bunch of hairdressers together you can't have anything but a good time, as we are all slightly off center anyway. You'd have to be to do this for a living. We went to a new restaurant called Rumor Haz It. Key West theme, very cute, great food, and wonderful service.
This is how our day started. We wore reindeer antlers
and funny hats.

"Q" and Jessica

Our receptionist Bridget
I just love her Jo and Debbie J. Racy text message, just suffice to say it involved a man and a shoe.... Debbie J. and Debbie P. Two Debbie's down......
And one more to go...
Victoria and Debbie M.
"Q" and Jessica again....
No we are not alcoholics....
We just like margaritas.
I think this is my favorite photo.
It shows the real fun and togetherness
of a bunch of women out for the
night, just enjoying each others
company.......and a few drinks....

Toast To Tuesdays....

I decided to borrow Desert Hen's Toast To Tuesdays... We tend to miss the little things that happen through the day, or think they don't happen at all. Sometimes we need to find joy in the small things instead of always looking for the big ones. So take a look and see what your day might have special in it for you.
Todays Toast:
My Hubby for a fabulous night.
Wy for being in a good mood at the laundramat (broken washer)
D for doing his homework without complaining
The washer repair man for showing up at 6:30 pm
and fixing my washer!
Rain rain coming our way! We soooo need it.

Bra Burning....

I know I'm not the only woman in the world who went out somewhere, with a most uncomfortable bra on, and decided you just had to get rid of it. You know the kind, elastic is all worn out, and it keeps riding up your back. It's itchy and driving you crazy. I figure what the heck I'm just hanging out with my family. So I took it off and went to throw it in the garbage. Did I mention it was really old? Dar mention that we should just have an old fashioned bra burning.....so I chucked it in the fire. Kind of liberating...and really smelly...

Tessa

A few weeks ago I took Tessa to the vet because she just wasn't acting like her normal self. He couldn't really tell me what was wrong, but he gave her a shot of antibiotics, b12, and a steroid. She started acting a little better, but last Thursday and Friday, she just went downhill. Kidney failure. I made the heartbreaking decision on Friday to have her put down. I've had a couple of days to adjust, and feel I made the only decision I could, but the guilt still weighs heavily on me. She was just six years old, and my sweet baby girl. She could always be found next to me whether I be knitting, sitting on the computer, sleeping, or any number of places. She always greeted me when I came home and on occasion I think she missed me more than my own children some days. Her passing leaves a huge bruise on my heart that will take a long time to heal. I will miss her always for she gave me love every day without ever expecting anything in return. She was my friend, my family, my boo.
Until we meet again....I love you.
RIP
Tessa My Baby Girl

"E" Is For.....Oh Crap....

Desert Hen took part in a voluntary meme and told anyone who wanted to play to leave her a comment and she would leave us a letter to use. I have to list 10 things that begin with this letter...what letter would I get? "C" I could come up with lots of things, chocolate, cats, camels, coconuts. I'd even do "L" for llamas, lollipops, lemons, luck...What letter was I going to get? I couldn't wait...things running through my head...hmmm what to do. I get my letter and it's....it's... "E"? Oh crap! Desert Hen is for sure testing the intelligence of this city raised mountain living woman. Time to dig into the deepest darkest parts of my vocabulary and list of things I love.....
  1. Eggs....hmmm this could be easy
  2. Earth, for without it we would just be floating around in space.
  3. Eating...and by looking at me you'd know I'm not lying.
  4. Elastic...for without it my pants would not fit.
  5. Elbow...just imagine if we couldn't bend our arms.
  6. Emotions....I'm full of them, good and bad...there I admit it!
  7. Exacerbate....just cause it sounds cool when you say it.
  8. Exfoliate....cause it's great for my skin.
  9. Exasperating children...mine who I love more than my own life.
  10. Exceptional husband who puts up with me, my moods, and my warped sense of humor.

There I did it! Whew that was hard.

Desert Hen In The House!

I received this card from Desert Hen as a thank you for making some toys for her kitties. How nice it was to go to the mailbox and find a handwritten note. It seems that there are people out there who still take the time in this hectic e-mail filled world to make a few words alot more meaningful. Thank you to you Desert Hen....anytime.

My new blogging friends who don't know what it means to me to have someone out there who is interested and interesting. Thank you... Everyone... Have a great Thanksgiving.

Another Cat Toy

I find that if I don't have anything to knit I can get a little antsy. So I decided today to make another toy for Simi. The big girls don't care for them, but she loves them. I basically knit an I-cord for about 12 inches or so then just start knitting a ball on the end, I then just sew a loop into the end, takes longer to do the cord than the ball itself. Easy and quick. Almost instant knitting gratification.

Book Tag

Linda over at the 7msn has posted a book tag, thought I'd pass it along. Here are the rules: Grab the nearest book. Open the book to page 56. Find the fifth sentence. Post the text of the next two to five sentences. Don't look for your favorite book. Pick the closest. Tag 5 people to do the same.
Here's the one I had closest to the computer.
" I thought I was dead. I really did. If I hadn't been pretending I was dead, they would have killed me, too. They're crazy, man, crazy."

Ugh!

For those of you who don't know much about me I've been a hairstylist for 21 years and a mom for 8. I go to the salon only two days a week, and work the other 5 at home, doing mom stuff as I'm sure most of you moms do. I woke up today just kind of in a crappy mood. It could be from the last couple of nights sleep with a new kitten in the house, it could be allergies from the fall season, it could be pms...hell it could be all of it, and anything else my fuzzy mind can't come up with right now. I've been thinking that I might be just too nice, ya know how that can bite you in the butt? I agreed to be at work tomorrow....get this....for a client at 6:30 am! What was I thinking? Really? Do I want to get up at 4:45? Drive creepy dark secluded mountain roads for 45 minutes just for this client? I guess so. She is a great client, I see her every week for something or other, and I guess you could call her a pseudo friend, being that I don't really have any around here. She is going to be leaving for Hawaii tomorrow so maybe I'm just hoping she'll stick me in her luggage. I could use a vacation. My only saving grace is that I'm going to leave earlier than my usual 5:00pm so it could be worse I guess. I do love my job and enjoy the time I get to spend talking with people taller than my children. I love them and their pretty good conversationalist, but not on adult topics usually. I sometimes just wish I had a good girlfriend close by to be able to hang with on the days that it can be too much and you just need to take a break. Am I the only one who feels this way? Probably not, most do I'm sure, many don't admit it. On the bright side it is raining here in NC, we've needed it so bad it's crazy how below we are for the year, and last year was just as bad. Hopefully it will continue into the night and dampen down some of the dust that's been flying around. Well I'm done complaining for now, it's really not that bad I guess, other's have it much worse. I hope all have a great weekend. Love to you and yours.

Surprise!

Imagine my surprise to find out that I was given a couple of Blogger Awards...I'm ecstatic that someone other than family might find my blog entertaining. I would like to give perpetual
thanks to Desert Hen for thinking that I'm worthy of such an award, and for taking time out of her busy days to spend a little time in mine.
Now I get to pass it on to some lucky people. Now some might be shocked because I tend to lurk a little and not say too much. Here they are.
May you all have as much fun passing it on.
So here are the rules: 1. The receiver can put the logo on their blog. 2. Link to the person you received your award from 3. Nominate at least 7 other blogs.
4. Put links to those blogs are yours 5. Leave a message on the blogs you have nominated to let them know you have given them an award.

She's Here!

As you can see Simi is here. She had a slightly traumatizing morning with the vet and getting a few 3 baths, she was very flea friendly, a couple of blowdries later and she's as good as she can get. I went into D's room and she was cuddled right up in her new bed.
the look on Tessa's face says it all

cute isn't she?

Stockton Holler

Went for a hike today in Stockton Holler, an old homestead from way back when. The house is long gone, but part of the barn remains.
Part of the spring for water lurks in here
as well as a coyote den.
Not gonna go in there.
Here's a back view of the "barn"
The front view... I never knew there was stuff
way back in the woods like this.
I can only imagine what's living in it.
Dead pine tree, some sort of beetle is
killing alot of them in the area.

The way we came. Old road, not too passible.

Gotta love a man with big tools.

Grandmas outhouse still standing

As is the barn.

While we were there Kitty decided to come out and see what's up.
