Feeling Squirrely

Earlier last week one of the salon clients found her dog with a baby squirrel. Apparently he fell out of the nest and she couldn't find it. She brought it to a co-worker who is certified in non-domestic rehabilitation....and that's the story of how we all became foster mom's to a little baby squirrel. The little guy was in fine health, the dog did no harm.
He's so little his eyes aren't even opened yet.

I know there are some people out there who might say "why save a squirrel? dont' we have enough of those nasty things" And in fact a client did say that, after she told us how she saw some in her yard eating rat poison she had put out. I say...how could you not? I hope when he is bigger and is turned out into the woodsy yard of my co-worker that he lives a happy life. As he should.

Wow, that is such a cute little thing! I'm a softie - I hate to see anything suffer. Why not save a little squirrel?

I love squirrels! And the babies are so cute.
When we lived in South Carolina we came upon many babies who had fallen out of their nests. We learned that if we just left them alone and went back in the house (watching for and keeping away any cat or dog predators) the Mama would climb back down the tree and pick up their babies by the scruff of their necks.
We always kne when the Mama's were trying to find their babies, too because they chirp and bark like crazy and the baby typically answers. I was always amazed that the babies could fall 20-50 feet and still survive, too.
Squirrels are cool!

So cute :D I had a similar experience. Got a couple of babies from my old garage last year. But their mom came back for them and moved into a new nest :D
