Hornets
I took a ride up to my MIL's place yesterday on the 4-wheeler and saw this hanging from one of the tree branches...drove home to get the camera...not the best picture, it was snowing and I couldn't really get close enough. It was the biggest one I've seen, about the size and a half of a football. Which is pretty big for around here seeing as DH usually gets rid of them before they get that size.

Yikes, that thing is SCARY. You wouldn't catch me even that close to take a picture of it. Even if it's winter... no way!
Great picture! We (Knit Witch & I) see one on our walks up the mountain. Must be about the same size.

Are the hornets inside hibernating or whatever they do in the winter?
